The transportation planning software VISUM is part of the software suite PTV Vision. It is specifically designed to model travel demand covering all relevant transport modes. VISUM allows transportation planners to analyse, forecast and assess the impact of settlement development and infrastructure measures on traffic. Moreover, the system shows how the different measures in private and public transport influence each other. For example, as part of the Dmotion project, PTV has developed a strategy-conform traffic management system for Greater Düsseldorf which integrates different transport operators. Thanks to the connection of the traffic management systems of the City of Düsseldorf and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia it is possible to provide a comprehensive report on traffic conditions and strategic control of traffic signal systems and variable direction signs which reroute road users onto alternative routes in order to avoid traffic jams.
