Cooperative Systems
Belgium and the Netherlands are the pioneers – already today vehicles receive more and more recent traffic information than in any other european country.
At the Intertraffic fair 2010 in Amsterdam show cases demonstrated what would happen if vehicles not only received but also provided information.
What today still sounds like science fiction could soon become reality: road operators receive information from the vehicles about traffic flow, sudden barriers (e.g. accidents) or other problems and can react immediately.
To react means firstly to inform the vehicles concerned and secondly to resolve the occurring problems (traffic jam, hazard areas etc.) instantly
Several research projects have been dealing with this issue during the last years and have developed suitable hardware, software and application scenarios, integrating as well existing infrastructure like RSUs or dynamic traffic signs (VMS) in the scenarios and tests.
