Model Architecture
VISUM is the first information and planning system that combines all aspects of strategic planning with operational planning due to its detailed data model. The current VISUM release goes one step further and allows the user to directly integrate real-time data into the strategic planning process. It is therefore possible to evaluate the impacts of strategic planning on operational planning by using real-time data. Additionally, it enables the planner to integrate the values resulting from changing conditions into the planning process.
Data modeling in PTV Vision covers the four stages of standard transportation modeling. VISUM offers integrated procedures for traffic and transportation generation, distribution and transport mode choice, thereby initially displaying a trip-end model on the basis of the trip purpose. The model approach based on activity chains or origin-destination groups is used for traffic generation in VISUM. The aim is to display traffic generation results in VISUM.

VISUM is based on a modular structure for better correspondence to today's demands of transportation planning. Consequently, VISUM is available in different sizes and performance capacities, depending on the various add-on modules and the kind of model being used. VISUM allows display of both private and public transport in an integrated model. However, if required, it is also possible to display and analyze either private or public transport separately.
